TinyUmbrella upgraded with support for iOS 4.1

TinyUmbrella, the utility for saving the certificate SHSH has recently been updated with important new features including some of those which we have already mentioned in this post. Let’s see in detail the changes made with this important upgrade.

The developer failed to implement all the news of which we have spoken, but has nonetheless decided to release the new version as it will be very useful in view of the release of Firmware 4.1, scheduled for this week.

Added full support to IOS 4.1.

Baseband Protection: performing a restore to 4.1 with TinyUmbrella, the baseband will be preserved and will not be updated to enable users with iPhone locked factory to perform the unlock. This feature only applies to iPhone 4, as the upgrade of the baseband is handled differently for this device.

The program is now able to capture the appropriate certificates to the device directly from Cydia in a completely automatic, although we have not saved locally (you must still have saved on the server Saurik)

Edit the hosts file to automatically close the application, so as to direct iTunes to communicate with the server Saurik in subsequent restorations with SHSH saved.

XDA Developer Fully Fixed Blackstone Touchscreen

If you own a HTC Blackstone and tired of errors in screen calibration and slow typing don’t worry now XDA developer posted a series of fixes to get your screen working as it should. Fixes like wrong pointer and calibration are fully corrected and now added the long press for hardware key. So if you need the fix all you need is this installing the new kernel provided.

Unlock iPhone Screen Using Volume Buttons

Apple recently rejected camera+ app that has ability to take photograph using volume buttons, after that another app with same ability appears on Cydia now there is another app called Vunlock that is using volume button for another purpose and this time it is used to unlock the phone if you like this idea you can grab it from Cydia and it is free.

You can follow these instructions to install Vunlock on your jailbroken iPhone:

Launch Cydia from your jailbroken iPhone’s homescreen.

Tap on the Search tab and search for Vunlock.

Tap on Vunlock and then on the ‘Install’ button to install it on your iPhone.

That’s it. You should now be able to use the volume buttons to unlock iPhone’s screen.

PDF exploit fix from cydia

Apple rolled out iOs 4.0.2 for iPhone and iPod to fix this vulnerability, but iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G user are still at risk because iOS 4.x doesn’t support these devices.

Luckily for Apple, the Jailbreak community isn’t so callous. @saurik has been burning the midnight oil coding a Cydia package that will fix the holes for all devices and all firmware versions (even going back to version 2.x!).

On Wednesday, Apple (finally) released firmware 4.0.2, which patches the very large security holes exploited by @comex in the 2nd incarnation of jailbreakme.com. The only problem is they outright abandoned iPhone2G and iPod Touch 1G users! Even though Apple acknowledges in their security update the severity of these holes, they left iPhone2G and ipt1G owners high and dry — completely vulnerable to truly malicious variants of jailbreakme (these variants aren’t out yet, but they’re sure to come!).

Apple releases iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone, iOS 3.2.2 for iPad

Apple has just released iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone and iOS 3.2.2 for iPad which on the surface seem only to patch the zero day, in the wild PDF rendering exploit that enabledJailbreakme.com, but could have also potentially allowed all manner of malware attacks against the iPhone Safari browser.

At a whopping 579.3 MB for iOS 4.0.2, it does seem like there should be something more substantial in the update — proximity sensor fix anyone? — but if there is, Apple isn’t saying.

Kudos, however, for moving at what is for Apple security, lightning speed.

BlackBerry Torch 9800 (Short Review)

BlackBerry is launching its new phone BlackBerry torch 9800 on 12th of August. It is named after the maker of the new BlackBerry Webkit Browser, Torch Mobile. This is the first BlackBerry phone which will be powered by new operating system 6.

The BlackBerry Torch have 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen with HVGA resolution of 480 by 360.It has a vertical slide-out QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad. It got a 624 MHz processor. It also comes with 512MB RAM; 512MB flash ROM, 4GB NAND Flash and as well as a bundle 4GB microSD card. It got Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. RIM claims a talk time of up to 6 hours and a stand by time of 13 days. Torch has 5-Mega pixel autofocus camera and VGA recording capability. The BlackBerry Torch has a media player built in plus a 3.5mm audio socket, the torch can be synchronized with iTunes and windows media library. The microSD slot in Torch can hold up to 32GB of memory card.

The new operating system 6 will bring lot of features to this phone. A full HTML Webkit browser offers tabbed browsing for accessing multiple pages at the same time and this browser also supports the popular pinch to zoom multi touch gesture. It also gives a single view of social networking sites such as facebook, twitter etc. The other useful feature includes customized home screen, improved search function plus social networking support. BlackBerry 6 will also be available as an upgrade to Bold 9700, Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G customers.

RIM has given us much improved handset and software platform with BlackBerry Torch 9800.It is just a shame that is only available on AT & T in USA. Every phone has it cons; the main one is the low resolution resistive touch screen which isn’t a patch on the iPhone 4 or HTC desire phones. Although BlackBerry keyboards are very good, we can’t help out but feeling that it would be much better to improve to mount the keyboard along the long edge of the phone like Motorola does on the Droid and Milestone.

How to install Flash on your iPhone

As you all know that apple hates adobe Flash and can’t allow user to run flash on its idevices reason “Not giving good performance” in an open letter Jobs elaborating all the reasons why Apple has chosen not to allow Adobe Flash on their platform.

Some days back Comex, developer of JailbreakMe and Spirit had figured out a way to get Adobe Flash content to run on a jailbroken iPad, using a compatibility layer. He had managed this by porting Android Flash runtime to iPad. Comex is calling the port of the Android Flash runtime for the iPhone as Frash.

Here are some simple steps to install Flash (Frash) on your iPhone.

You must need a jailbroken iPhone if you don’t have one visit jailbreakme.com and jailbreak yours.

1. Launch Cydia.

2. Add new source by Taping on the Manage Tab and then on Sources.

3. Tap Edit and then add, type the following URL: http://repo.benm.at/

4. Tap done and then Tap this repo and Tap on Frash to install it.

5. Reboot your iPhone.
